Does anyone know how to trim the hooves of a pig? The only way I know how is to get the pig drunk and grind them down with a dremel tool. It works.. but I was thinking there might be a better way. I realize the vet would be perfect for this job... but I don't work any sorts of jobs that actually give money in return...any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: pig hoof trimming???
Tue, January 6, 2004 - 12:26 PMWell I looked through the 4-H handbooks and it sounds like you have the most humane way of trimming. One thing I can suggest is concrete. Either a space in the pen or the outdoor area will help keep her feet trimmed. -

Fri, January 9, 2004 - 9:20 AMUnfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view) there is no concrete around here.. and there's also no pen. It's a completely free range pig...he doesn't like walking on hard smooth surfaces anyway. It scares him for some reason. But I think I might make a concrete perch for the bird to grind her nails on...
Talk to ya later!

Re: pig hoof trimming???
Tue, January 6, 2004 - 12:55 PMHey you! How's it going? Is this Beltaine you are talking about? If so scratch him behind the ears for me... I think ya hit upon a great solution in your question! Perhaps ya could trade some work at a local vet for the trimming? Just a thought, be well! -

I like the idea of trading work at the vet for the trimming..I'll consider it! Thanks! Btw, how are you doing? I haven't heard from you in a while.
Love ya,
